Wow what another day we had best described as organised bloody chaos. But of the best kind. the guys were really kind to help me with the final bits of my You Can film. so thanks for that. we then had a show run through minus some key members which made it improvising. Whether good, bad different, there will be a show and you will enjoy it.... or else!

Jimmy

Today we got the rehearsal out so we knew how it was going down, looking forward to the big show

David

We had a last rehearsal before the end event on the 22nd what a lovely team we have!

Had a lovely day, sad to see the number change of the people coming but all in all it was a very successful day, I got on the computer and got my tracks finished, one more week :)

Alan

Today we went through the dress reheresal for the show, and practised the running order we also watched some of the films of what we've been doing over the months it was great watching and remebering the event come on the scene. we've done everything we can towards this event being as the performance is next week, it's comforting to know that the show will be happening and even though our acts may not be polished we will be surely making an effort to entertain

Drew

James Swift- Project Assistant

Today we made our badges for the event, we also finished the You Can CD by recording all the songs left to do and we ran through the comedy sketch and all the poems, everything is prepared for the dress rehearsal next week

Comments from Participants:

Danny
Today we have rehearsed for the show, during this time I have done the programme a long with rehearsing my Poem and OCDC

Matt

Well what can I say, this week has been enlightening, it has shown the creative side to other people. the course has taught me a lot about myself for example, I've learnt to hold back on trying to control the group. Today has been a bit slow , I finished my speech and finished my lighting for the event

Ged

Hi I'm Ged

Today was the morning after the night before. Today being the 8th may and I'm glad I turned up as it it gave me a reason to buckle down and finish the music I started a few weeks ago. this meant me and Alan doing our vocals for "Inspire", Then I followed this up with my exploding garage of blues - which I did really quickly and came out better than expected a bit like this course. passed too quickly and turned out very well I am so pleased that I signed up for this course as it gave me a chance to work with people from different backgrounds that have helped me and hopefully I have contributed something. stuff like this helps people and helps communities. I hope it continues into the future. - which I did really

Alan

This course has been great for me, after not being involved with any performance and creativity for many years it's been real fun, there's only a few weeks before the end of this course and I will surely miss spending time with my Friday friends at the studio and being involved in so many different Projects and Ideas we have put into practice over the past couple of months it's a shame that some of the people who started the course dropped out as the weeks went by but that always seems to happen with courses by any nature I'm glad I stayed and have had a great time.

Jimmy

I have really enjoyed the past few weeks all coming together now a lot more to work on but it's all good and can't wait for the final show but I have met some good people and learnt new things and I hope that someday we will come back and do some more stuff

David

I would like to appreciate the presence of the members of You Can and also the runners. I would like to thank Louise, Steve, Tony and James for all their continued dedication into making the event a reality and also for their support in the coming event. Every week has been a fantastic weekly event at the studio.

Drew

Today was fun I was making Badges with James, I also recorded a track for the CD, yeah real fun

Jimmy

Today I finished my movie edit and added sound to it as well and we did a song called sandwich and it was good fun

Drew

Great session Today got to come up with some music on stage working towards the event.

Matt

Well what to say I've got to redo all the lights. we had a run through the event

Ged

Today was a good mixed bag. we began by writing our little blog for the programme which forced me to concentrate the old brain cells. Then I did a bit of live rehearsal with the band. then me and then me and Alan rehearsed our bit and made some great progress. then we recorded our comedy for the event. After Ste had convinced me never to use final cut pro (Its a video editing thing). all in all a packed and varied days work

Alan

I really enjoyed myself today we had a great run through of the performance . I had a couple of practices with Ged. we had a live jam on stage and I also had a couple of run throughs of my monologue with Louise. I totally dig my friday's at the studio It's excellent Immersing into someone creative at the end of the week I always feel energised by the time we've done our days activities this is a fantastic course that I'd recommend to anyone wanting to explore their own creativity in music and performance

I also worked with a couple of guys designing badges to make the event more memorable another lovely lunch and after we had a read through of the comedy sketch. It's great to see the ideas come together and all of the background work that goes with putting on a performance.

Week 10! 17th April

Today was the tenth day of the You Can! Project

James Swift- Project Assistant

Today began planning the event and also designing the front cover for the EP written and released by the participants, while designing the CD we also finished working on the design for the blog page

Comments from Participants:

Ged

Today was  Good "Doing" day in so much as we got things done Louise put the spade work in and prepared a running order for the show which helped to concentrate minds wonderfully. This meant that me and Jimmy have been assigned film editing duties both for the stage and the event I then presented my song to Alan and luckily he seemed to like it. so we will record and perform it between us hopefully. the house band also got lucky with a really good "riff" of music that Jimmy is putting words to and he calls it Distant stars. really really good productive uplifting and fun day. Thank you all for letting me play!

Daniel D

Today at The Studio we have been discussing and planning the songs for the event

Drew

Brilliant session, we got so much done today

Jimmy

Today I wrote some lyrics for a song called Distant Star and continued our comedy script.

Danny P
Today I have done my poem again for it to be laminated. I also helped with the press release, writing down questions and answers for the public.
Jake

Struggled a lot today to make a new beat, yet overall I'm happy with the progress I made today. Project is becoming a great distractions from my own distractions from my own issues

Matt

I've had a great day today sorting out the lights for the event, now that I have the plan I can finalise the lights

Alan

Another productive day today, we started of by looking over the running order for our performance, it's nice to see the organisation taking shape and realising how far we come along since the start. real rock and roll for the rest of the morning and in the afternoon we spent on the stage working on a couple of songs and the results were great to have formed a composition from a few ideas and now have a working progress to expand on. after a review on were we're up to we continued the last hour with our comedy it showing a mixture of excitement and nerves which it great!

Daniel W

It's been a boss day because I came up with some chords for a new song and then wrote scripts for the comedy sketches

Week 9! 10th April

Today was the ninth day of the You Can! Project

James Swift- Project Assistant

Today we started of writing on badges on our current feelings, then we discussed the event and what should be the set list, we then had a discussion on what should be the last song after decided "My Generation" by The Who would be the best for it we learnt and played it on stage. afterwards we all broke into our groups and continued our prep for the final event in May.

Comments from Participants:

Matt

I have worked on a new project which is to take quotes from the groups blog that inspire me.

Danny P

today had been fantastic. I love how everyone is taking part and coming together to create a variety of performances. It's nice to see things I didn't expect

Jake

Was a great day in The Studio, got my first main track I want to release and also gained more ideas for my speech for the event

Dan D

Today we have had to sort out structure of the band songs and starting working of the end song

Daniel W

Today was fantastic because I was playing musical instruments and then we looked into the comedy part of stuff and it was really good had a very good day

Jimmy

Today we put together a script to help with the comedy. I also planned out my film and next week I will film it.

Lucretia

I've not been here for the last two weeks and I've really missed it. It's great to be back! Today we made great progress with planning the event, and I sang for the first time in ages (whether that was good or bad is debatable) I can't wait for next week.

Ged

Today was really enjoyable and quite uplifting, there was a lot of cohesion within the group as all those weeks of individual effort began to bear collective fruit. My part of it was drumming duties for the house band, I weirdly did a bit of singing/shouting as part of this. we started to lick the comedy into shape which was really rewarding. finally my chum Lucretia returned to our group and joined our in house band as the bassist. Top value all around!

Alan

Great day today after our Easter break I feel there was a lot more productivity and as a group I feel we are able to get along nicely and work together toward our live production.we had an absolutely lovely lunch after spending this morning sounding out and rehearsing our personal projects. this afternoon was great fun  doing a collective song performance on stage. We also worked out a sensible plan for the running order of our live show. I feel so relaxed and happy after a constructive day.
